XRF for Plumbing

Our XRF coating thickness measurement systems measure these plated finishes:

Plumbing fittings and fixtures require precise plating to ensure adequate corrosion protection, wear resistance, and an attractive decorative finish. Ensuring proper finishing can increase the durability and lifespan of parts, as well as eliminate everyday issues such as leaks and rusting.

Bowman XRF systems provide an accurate, non-destructive method for measuring thickness and composition of common plumbing coatings. Bowman’s instruments quickly and easily read finishes such as Nickel (Ni), Titanium (Ti), Copper (Cu), Gold (Au), Chrome (Cr), and Zirconium (Zr), as well as alloys including Brass (CuZn) and Zinc Iron (ZnFe) over both plastic and metal substrates. A built-in materials library feature makes bulk alloy identification take mere seconds.

Complex part geometries present challenges for accurate measurement. Curves, angles, recesses, and size variations of common plumbing fittings make sample positioning challenging and optimal accuracy difficult to achieve. Bowman has engineered and manufactured several unique tools to overcome issues associated with intricate parts.

  • Variable focus camera allows the working distance to be adjusted from 0.25”-2.5+” to accommodate measurement in recessed or angled areas.
  • The L Series system provides a 22”x24”x10” chamber as well as a programmable XY stage (travel 10”x10”) to cover a large measurement area for parts up to 24”.
  • The B Series system also accommodates larger samples and is a perfect choice for parts that only require one test location.
  • The multi-collimator assembly provided with both systems provides versatility in measuring samples and features of all sizes.
